Ever wondered how you can stay young forever? Even though, science has never been able to accomplish this; still, now there seems to be a solution. It's no plastic surgery of your whole body or some pills which will make you live longer or any other cosmetic product...it's a black hole! Let's take a journey into one...
Black holes are probably the most fascinating regions in our universe; they are defined as a region of spacetime from where escape of even the fastest known thing is impossible-- light-- because of its high gravitational pull. As opposed to the common misconception about black holes, they don't act as very powerful vacuums which suck everything that's around them. Actually, if you stayed at a distance of more than 3 times of the event horizon (which is kind of like the surface of the black hole), you will be in a safe place.
In a scenario where you are is a spaceship and at a radius of more than 3x the radius of the event horizon, you would actually orbit the black hole just like our earth orbits the sun. If you were to actually enter into the 3x radius of the black hole, you won't be sucked in all together but you will not have stable orbits and you will have to fire your retro rockets to stay in that area. At that point of time, if you were looking towards the hole, the structure of spacetime would be so strongly distorted that you would be able to see the objects directly behind the black hole. You would actually see an array of stars behind the blackhole collected around the surface of the event horizon as depicted in the following image:
Getting back to our story of being young forever: We know because of Einstein's spacetime theory and the theory of relativity that time for the person who is actually near a black hole would move a lot slower compared to a person farther away. This phenomenon is known as Gravitational Time Dilation. Considering that all of your friends are on earth and you have just taken a journey to a black hole; when you will return, it might have been 100s or 1000s or 10,000s or even million of years (depending on your time of stay) for your friends on earth! And relatively, you would be a lot younger to your friends even when they are in their 90s!
So, waiting for a black hole...ladies?
